This fossil is a pine cone, which was prepared for petrified-wood.de. Three-dimensionally preserved, not flattened cones are a rare find and often have a specific aesthetic, because they are all too familiar to us from recent nature. This specimen presents itself on an unbroken siltstone slab and was harmoniously displayed without working too much on the matrix.

The charred substance of the scales had to be stabilized several times during the preparation. Otherwise it would have been easily destroyed during work.

Fossil: Pinus sp.

Formation: Miocene

Length of the fossil: 13cm (5.1 inch)

Work required: 11 hours
